Have a look at http://g-scripts.sourceforge.net/cat-multimedia.php ,
specifically "WOM_audioconverter".

Its a nautilus script (installation instructions at
http://g-scripts.sourceforge.net/ ), so works from within the file
manager.

Havent tried it myself, but it says "you can select several files" at
once, so perhaps this is what you are after?
