Well, just as an FYI...
I added this to my sources
deb-src http://us.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu dapper main restricted
Did an
apt-get --compile source xserver-xorg
And now have some nice xorg-7 debs.  I don't know if I will go any further on 
my workstation, I'll probably get a test system up before I do anything 
else...

Anyhow, no one has to tell me this will break stuff, I am quite aware of that, 
I was hoping someone would have some ideas on how to do this and NOT break 
stuff.    :)
