How do I get my system emails?

I'm running Evolution as my mail client and, thus, connecting to the
POP/SMTP/etc. servers directly. I'd like to get the emails that are
being delivered to me, however, as every time I open a terminal I'm
being told I have mail.

How do I gather locally-transmitted email in Evolution?
