Webcam software reccomendation...?

I tried my Creative NX cam and it was recognized & the drivers loaded.  
However, after d/l 'motion' & trying to use it I got a kernel panic on an 
already running system.  Nothing got logged of any import but it was an 
interrupt error of some sort.  The data was so lengthy that I didn't write it 
all down. Guess I'm going to wait awhile to do any more with it.
