I've never used MLdonkey, so I can't help you there. I have however
been using aMule for +/- eighteen months, and the curent version
(2.0.3) in the Ubuntu repo is extremely robust and versatile. I have
set up my Linksys router to forward the port range 4661-4672 to my
host's (DHCP) IP and everything works like a charm.
Please "sudo apt-get amule" and if amule runs ok and gets a high ID,
then you can go back to debugging MLdonkey. On the other hand, you
might consider staying with amule if it works for you.
FWIW, I have heard various disparaging comments about "multi-protocol"
filesharing apps such as MLdonkey in the P2P community. IOW, your best
bet may be to use LimeWire for Gnutella, aMule for eDonkey, Nicotine
for SoulSeek, Lopster for OpenNap, etc., rather than look for an
all-in-one solution.
