Desktop keybindings

Well someone suggested me those keycodes could correspond to special
keys you may found in notebooks or some multimedia keyboards.
So i tried volume up and down with the function keys of my notebook
and they indeed work. It seems reasonable to infer Ubuntu sets those
up in case they're present and if not it should be safe to change with
some custom ones.
In a way it's a pity: having the chance of setting a preferred
application and then not being able to use a common keystroke
available across different boxes sounds like a shortcoming.
