Window managers: how to use XFCE wm in Gnome ??

Hi,

I am trying to find a theme in the line of the old Mac (Mac OS 7/8/9,
not X). I searched on www.gnomelook.org and couldn't find anything. All
there is, relates to OS X.

Yesterday I happened to install XFCE on Dapper, and oh miracle, it came
with a window theme called "Platinum". It was exactly what I was looking
for. But I think this theme only works in XFCE, not Gnome, as I think it
is powered by XFCE's window manager, "xfce4wm" or something I think,
instead of Gnome which uses Metacity.

Of course, I would still need a Gtk theme to complement the window theme
(another miracle, one day maybe...), but in the meantime, could someone
tell me if it's possible to get Gnome to use that XFCE window manager ?
If it's possible, how to proceed, and does it have any ill effects on
Gnome, or can Gnome be theoretically happy with any window manager ? Or
is it built around Metacity ??

Thanks in advance for any help...

Regards,
