why Can't I install the grub on ubuntu 6.06?

I have solved my problem with the following command
I boot from the live cd, then
>sudo mount /dev/hda2 /mnt
>sudo grub-install /dev/hda2 --no-floppy --root-directory=/mnt
Then I restart my pc from the flash-disk and create the menu.lst file in
/boot/grub directory
Note that the *MENU.LST* file name is wrong. Only the menu.lst file name
works.
