mounting usb didgital camera

When I connect my Cannon S3 IS unger gnome I can copy files off it OK
but it does not create a mountpoint.  Is there a way of doing  this.
I want to do it as I would like to copy pictures off the cameras on a
system without gnome (its a mythtv pvr).  Any ideas?
