Ah, if you are having problems with Serpentine, then the dialog won't
help you, as I think all it does is fire up Serpentine ! ;-)
Just try a different CD burning application, see if you have more luck.

You can try "gnomebaker"

if that still doesn't work, try the famous "k3b", it's a KDE program so
will look bloated and out of place in Gnome, but if it can get you
going.
If you want to get rid of the mess of KDE libs that will get pulled
when you install K3B, better to install it from the command line rather
than synaptic;

sudo apt-get install k3b

then later to remove it and all the kde libs with it:

sudo apt-get remove --auto-remove k3b
