Xubuntu and WiFi Madness (version 6.10)

Am running Xubuntu (version 6.10) on this old celeron laptop. Memory is only
96 Meg ... hence my choice of Xubuntu. I battled on past the 'anthy
problem' ... and have installed Xubuntu. Whereas in the past I found WiFi to
be breeze ... it's now come to a full-stop!

The card is a DLink G630 ... which I know from past installs is powered by an
Atheros chip. On Xubuntu 6.06 the WiFI setup was easy because the three
network interfaces were identified under network manager. I just selected
the one I wanted ... and brought it up. At times I have used the ethernet,
the modem and the wifi card ... to connect to the internet at home and away.

When I came to do the upgrade, my wifi card was recognised ... and I thought
that this was going to be easy. Wrong!! My network manager stubbornly
refuses to 'see' a wireless interface ... and so I cannot bring it up.
Various attempts to bring up the ath0 interface have failed ... and I have
come to a brick wall.

Has anyone else got past this little problem??
