Thank you for your response. I believe I followed the install ins-
tructions when I initially created a swap and a large root parti-
tion, but it would certainly not be the first time I have misunder-
stood directions. In any case, df -h produces:

Filesystem Size Used Avail Use% Mounted on
/dev/hda1 36G 34G 400M 99% /

... and as you mention in a subsequent message in this thread, "that
means that you are running out of space in / ;-)" heh. no kidding.
see below. running:

sudo du -h --max-depth=1 / ...produces:

... something doesn't seem to add up, and I'm wondering what I should
look for?

I thought I'd seen an item in one of the ubuntu guides (official/unof-
ficial) that explained how to migrate (?) stuff to a /home partition
but a quick look this afternoon hasn't turned it up.

Thanks again, and to everyone else who has participated so far. Sorry
for the delay in my own participation; we've been experiencing atypical
power-outages due to unusual weather patterns here on the left coast of
Canada. Edgy's been great, apart from the full / partition!
