On a new machine, I've just installed Ubuntu Dapper. One of the packages
I added was emacs 2.1

I know that on a previous ubuntu install, emacs highlighted an area when
I selected it by <ctrl>-space. On the install I have now, I look for the
mark set and just have to take it on faith that the area is selected as
I don't get the highligh.

This tells me that I've omitted something (either software or a step) in
the emacs setup.

Who can tell me what that might be?
Thanks in advance
