Ooo, you have convinced me. I am canceling my order for the Dell right
now and running down to my local Apple store drooling for that "It Just
Works" experience I hear so much about.
Is that the best response you can come up with? The OP asked for a
comparably configured non-MAC LAPPY. I think that is what I came up
with. To be honest, I could have added Bluetooth and a webcam. And I
should have selected the higher end LCD screen for the Dell. But then I
should have compare this configuration to the MacBook Pro with a 17"
screen at $3099 CDN.
Note that we are talking hardware here and about running Ubuntu on it.
It is quite possible that OS X is worth the extra $400-1000 premium you
pay for buying a Mac. Not for me. I prefer Ubuntu.
Don't get me wrong. I know that Apple make great hardware. And that Dell
has made some crap in the past. But I have also bought lemon iBooks and
great Dell laptops. The current crop of Dells are getting good reviews
for fit and finish and construction.
You go ahead and buy your Porsche. My Honda Civic gets me around town
just fine.
Cheers,
Doug.
