Along with all the other replies:
If your printer /is/ working, and you just want to print a page without 
the side panes, highlight the part of the page that you want to print.  
Then, when the print dialog comes up, select print selection.  That 
should only print what you have highlighted on the page.  At least, it 
works for me.
