I was sure I had seen this somewhere, but maybe that was a different
email client.
The only thing I can find is (Thunderbird 1.5):
Edit -> Preferences.
Advanced Tab, then General
On the right near the bottom should be a button labelled 'Config Editor'.
Click that.
You should see something similar to FireFox's about:config window.
(but the Thunderbird version).
type 'reply' in the filter box.
You should see:
mailnews.reply_header_authorwrote
change the value of that to whatever you want it to say when you reply.

I don't think you actually need to alter user.js, I think the config
editor can do it for you.
