I believe that the key was F6.  As the CD boots up, there is a line at 
the bottom of the startup display that lists the keys, and I think the 
one to use is labeled Other Options.  I'm pretty sure that F6 is that 
key.  Assuming that to be the case, press F6 while the Start or Install 
Ubuntu line is selected, and you will be able to edit the boot line. 
Just add noapic to the end of the line.
