Ubuntu on a 486?

I am.  On several around the world.

Mine are all 133Mhz, for the record, and these are CPUs that are not
only still produced and sold, they're also quite common.

While I would prefer to see us producing some ports for embedded
targets, and AMD Elan (AKA 5x86, AKA "really fast 486") would be one of
them, we're not currently doing so, and I'd prefer we don't drop support
for those systems "just cause".
