With synaptic you can define a filter for "orphaned" packages: I don't
have english locales but I guess it's the item "filters" in the
"settings" menu; create a new filter, name it e.g. "orpahned" and
unckeck every checkbox on the right side except for "orphaned" and hit
the ok button.

Now when you are in the main window click on the "filters" button in the
lower left corner and you'll get a list of available filters. Choose the
one you just created and you'll get a list of libs and such that are not
required by others (which doesn't mean they are not used by others if
they're installed, so be careful when removing packages you don't
understnad what they do).
