Dear everyone,
we just unpacked our brand new PC and were hoping to
be up and running with Ubuntu 6.06 but the Ethernet card is not found
(i.e. /etc/iftab is empty and ifconfig does not return a MAC address for
it).

We have downloaded the driver file tg3-3.58b-1.src.rpm, converted it to
b44_1.00g-2_i386.deb using alien and now we are trying to compile it -
but as the Ethernet card is not seen I have to feed every file we need
through an external piece of media and it is rather painful.

Question: is an Ubuntu installation disk going to be available soon
that would allow us to just stick it in, install and be up and running?

In general - does anyone have a piece of advice on the optimal way of
proceeding when installing Ubuntu Linux from scratch on a computer with
an Ethernet card whose driver is not in the installation disk?

	Thanks!

	Pietro
