ssh problem

OK, now we're getting somewhere. Now it gets to the
door but won't accept my password. 

I edited /etc/sshd_config to allow "empty passwords".
Nope. Then I edited it to allow "challenge response
authentication". Nope. Still get(ssh to kubuntu box
from gentoo box) "permission denied". Don't
understand. When I ssh from the kubuntu box I enter my
user's password on the gentoo box and I'm in, no
problem.

So here's iptables -L as per request:

alazarin at alazarin-desktop:~$ sudo iptables -L
Chain INPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

Chain FORWARD (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination

Chain OUTPUT (policy ACCEPT)
target     prot opt source               destination
