I had a similar problem with kppp.
The command should be "pause 2", I think.

According to one source:

Tried the pause 2, plus added some extra  /d in various places but no
change

I've tried both chap and pap not sure which one is better.

Also tonight (unless that tropical storm causes problems with lighting
here in Georgia) will try to play with my chap and pap secrets files.

For example rather than just

"dontyouwish" * "sorry"

I may add
"dontyouwith  pstel1 "sorry"

To match with 
remotename pstel1
In the optionfile.
