OpenOffice.org Lock-up on Ubuntu on NVidia Gforce4 MX440 8X video card

I think my nvidia driver is incompatible with the latest upgrades from 
Ubuntu.  Got any tips on what to do to get the latest?  I've done 
"apt-get update; apt-get dist-upgrade".  The problem persists.
