Boot Problem .. Maybe

Running both [KU]buntu Dapper and my problem happens with both. Last night, I started another session, and noticed that the session used vt:9 not vt:8 as I expected. When I hit CTRL-ALT-F8 to go over there, I saw what appeared to be kernel output, of the form:

  <service> started .............[ok]
  <service> started .............[ok]

This output appeared to stop about 75 % of the way through. In all other respects, my bootup was ordinary.

What is this kernel output on the second terminal?
Is it something I need to worry about?
How do I get rid of it?

  TIA

Apologies for HTML. I am at work, and do not have access to either Evolution or Agent ..
