Yes.  SIM (Simple Instant Messenger)

It's very good and has a ton of features/plugins BUT it's VERY 
lightweight and supports the usual protocols AIM/ICQ, Yahoo!, MSN and 
Jabber.

All the lightweight ones I know of (that render pages decently) require 
heavyweight extras.  Epiphany and Galeon for GNOME and Konqueror for KDE.

In the case of the first two, you'd have to install a bunch of GNOME 
libraries also.  I don't know how much that would slow down things for you.
