ps/2 mouse not working

i have a 3 button PS/2 optical mouse. It works under Windows,but in Ubuntu,the mouse doesnt have any power,but wen i first boot the system,the mouse gets power and then loses it as Ubuntu loads up,and occasionally,although usually not,with Windows as well.If i cant fix it,ill just have to use the USB mouse,but id prefer to fix it if its possible.
