Thanks!! Note that any forum e-mails on this would have been downloaded 
to Evolution on Ubuntu while it still worked.  Had a lot to do yesterday 
so didn't read the forum. Then this morning the thing doesn't start, 
with no real way to get to those posts or even the general web from my 
Ubuntu installation. (Well, "apt-get lynx" would have worked I suppose...)

Anyway, I appreciate the silver platter. :)

Yah.. Mine was a HP/Compaq notebook, P4, couple years old.
