ATM, it's not possible to mix NX clients at version 2.0 with NX
servers at version 1.5. That's the reason why your office mate had to
uninstall FreeNX (which, AFAIK, still is at version 1.5) and install
NoMachine's NX server which is version 2.0.

Some people have been able to make it work, but I hadn't up to date.
