netinstall?

greetings,

first of all, i'm sorry four double posting, was not sure which list
might be more appropriate for this...

this is something i've wondered about for a while. let me explain.
before i moved from debian to ubuntu, i used to do all my install via a
net install. it was fast, and allowed me to get an up-to-date system.

now, there isn't a net install for ubuntu that i know of. this is what i
don't understand. i know the ubuntu installer is/was based off the
debian installer, so i would imagine the functionality is there. also,
i'm fairly sure that durring an install, the ubuntu installer is just
doing apt-get's from a local/cd source, so i wouldn't imagine it would
be that hard to move to http/ftp/nfs, since this is built into apt
already...

anyone know if there is an implementation of such as thing? are there
any plans to add this feature/functionality?

here at work, our linux workstations are being moved to ubuntu, and
shortly they will become my responsability. idealy, i would like to be
able to run an apt-proxy to store packages locally on a server on our
network, and install/update computers from that. this all hinges on
being able to do netinstalls in one way or another.

any info anyone can get me would be great.
