Sorry for the double posting but I figure a edit after 3 hours is not
appropriate.



So I fiddled around a bit with apt-get and got it finally working
without any discrepancies and managed to install ubuntu-desktop. So I
am half way back to where I was before that "incident". GDM is not
working, though. Will be working on this as soon as I'm home from work.
Just thought to let you know. Alan was right, glad I didn't give up on
the console. ;)
