That means the problem is related to the settings you made as a user,
not to anything you could cure by reinstalling the package.
As most Gnome programs do, glabels saves it's settings using the gconf
database. Thus, to reenable the grid without having to run glabels, you
just have to type "gconf-editor" in a command shell, navigate to the key
apps/glabels/grid-visible and switch this entry field on.
Hope that helps. I can't verify the solution since I can't reproduce the
error you described. If it doesn't help, you might try to just remove
all entries in apps/glabels/ in order to run glabels again.
But be warned: Using gconf-editor is potentially dangerous, so always
look twice before changing settings that way. Good luck.
