GNOME Question: Why sudden change from breadcrumbs?

I guess it depends on the user - the *first thing* I change in Nautilus is
to make the location bar permanent. 

But then, I'm the kind of user who has a terminal or ten permanently open,
so maybe I'm not the target user type for the so-called "Human Interface
Guidelines" ;-)
