I had the exact same problem as John described. After scratching my
head, and installing Ubuntu a few times, realization dawned.
The Linux ACPI support always has been fairly flaky (at least for joe
e. user - Suspend on laptops doesnt work correctly, and I have not
dared to try hibernate yet ;) So, on a hunch, I just removed all the
ACPI related stuff off my IBM ThinkCenter, and voila!
Uptime: 23:30, no slowdown as yet. Before, it would be crawling by now
...
My System (which now works):
IBM ThinkCenter - Celeron 2.0GHz with 622 MB RAM (wtf - but
thats it),
KUbuntu 6.06.0 (LTS, Dapper Drake) with all the latest updates
installed.
Linux 2.6.15-26-386 with PREEMPT (the Stock ubuntu kernel)
Modules that I Removed to get my system working:
acpid acpi-support acpi
Hope this helps anyone else in the same boat.
