Why is OpenOffice slow?

hi folks.

my OOo also took almost a minute to start up. (that's how i stumbled
over this thread)



since from what i read, nobody here really solved the prob, i "played"
a little, and realized that the startup process has been faster right
after the installation, *before* i installed Sun Java via Automatix.

After I disabled the use of the JRE in the OOo options, my
Writer-startuptime went down to about 8 seconds again, which is okay
for an AMD 2000+ with 256 megs of RAM i guess...



so, maybe some of your slowdowns might be solved if you do the same.
don't know what functions java in OOo is actually needed for, haven't
found one yet requiring me to activate it again.
