grub won't boot default option

Hello,

I have been using grub to boot Ubuntu with a 2 seconds time out to boot
the default option.

However after a kernel upgrade, grub stopped booting the default option
and now it simply gives the menu. If I simply hit enter, the boot
process wil go on as expected. So everything else still works.

I have tried setting the default with grub-set-default, removing the
splash screen and already went through the options several times.

Can anyone point me to what can possibly be going wrong here? The
menu.lst is attached.

Cheers,
