Yes and yes. ZFS is absolutely fantastic (and works).
I'm known as an LVM nut (and highly suspicious of 'marketing' type
claims for new technology) and ZFS makes linux lvm look like a piece
of crap in almost every respect.
I'd highly recommend getting hold of solaris express or similar just to
play around with it.
