Hrrrmmm.....well, im sad to say im typing this in an XP session :( ++,
instead of my beutiful Dapper install. (which btw, I had working just
the way I want)

This failed to initilise HAL error used to just be mild irritation to
me. Once in a while it would irk me, by as covered, logging in the
giving the failed to initialise hal error. Id curse, reset X, and use
the login screen reboot option. Then on the reboot, it would work
fine.

However now alas, my hal will not initialise. At all. Plus i may have
broken it further stumbling about trying to fix it.

About the only anomoly i can see was the previous shutdown (before it
went terminal) there was a breif error message about nautilus having an
error.

Sadly i think i may have to clense my Dapper64 install and start over.

however, if there is an easier way to rebuild my hal/desktop, PLEASE
feel free let me know. Simpley because I would hate to go through the
process of configuring this sucker again.
