Syncing a Palm TX with Ubuntu Dapper LTS

Hello friends, I was using pilot-xfer and jpilot on ubuntu-5.10 with a
great success. Then when I moved to U-606 the pilot did not
synchronize.

I tried to work it out in several different ways. At the end I managed
to change my kernel to the one I used on the latest u-510 update, and
the synchronizing works again with both pilot-xfer and jpilot. the only
one more tric I needed to do was to start the driver by:

sudo modprobe visor

I added it into a starting script so it works fine as well.

since I back to the old kernel some usb devices for storage stop to
work, if not modprob-ed. I fix the problem by having two menu.lst in
/boot/grub/

One for current kernel and one with old kernel that works with palm
pilot.

Not a perfect solution but it gives me possibility to synchronize on
linux sine I only have linux at home. I do not synch every day so it is
not a big problem to switch a kernel once in a week....

The situation with kernel is a problem for both ubuntu and suse and
others.

The latest news are the there is a new kernel that fixed tha problem
but I am not sure when it will be available to the U606.

The kernel that works is 2.6.12

did not work on 2.6.15

and started to work on 2.6.17 but not available to use yet.

good luck
