Configuration

  Linux 2.6.15-26-686 #1; Ubuntu 6.06 LTS
  xserver-xorg-7.0.0-0ubuntu45;
  xserver-xorg-driver-vesa-1:1.0.1.3-0ubuntu1

  Video board: "ATI Technologies, Inc. Radeon RV100 QY [Radeon 7000/VE]"
  Monitor:      "DELL 2007WFP" (flat panel)

I recently switched from the xorg 'ati' driver to 'vesa' (in order to
use recent kernels). But now, the highest resolution I can obtain
is 1280x1024 ...

1680x1050 is recommended by Dell (which worked using 'ati'). No matter
how I configure 'xorg's resolution, I end up with a maximum of 1280x1024.

My current 'xorg.conf' *only* specifies 1680x1050, yet 'xwininfo'
verifies a resolution of only 1280x1024 (and displayed objects
are, understandably, stretched in the horizontal direction).

Does anyone know how I can retain the higher resolution and continue
to use the 'vesa' driver?

Thanks!
