Try entering this as a command in your launcher creation dialogue:

sudo mc

... and tick the "Run in terminal" box. Works here on Breezy in Gnome...
of course you get gnome-terminal, but the terminal doesn't disappear in a
puff of smoke.

*cough* you _do_ have mc installed , right? ( Don't laugh  ;-) - I tried it
the first time without realising that my laptop did not yet have mc
installed... By the way, if you don't want mc-edit as your default editor
you'll probably need to run

sudo update-alternatives --config editor
