CUPs failed to start

you can do the following :

- look at the printer-settings (System -> Admin -> Printing)
  and see what that says (properties)

- open a terminal and type in : lpq
  and see what that says

- check whether you have enough free disc-space

- check in a terminal whether cups is actually running :
  ps auxw|grep cups

- change the debug-level in /etc/cups/cupsd.conf, and check the logfiles
  in /var/log/cups/
