I read your post on Tuesday but it only occurred to me just now how I defeated
a like problem. Let me elaborate: I had been running Gentoo for some months
& decided, upon a net-admin's advice, to try kubuntu. I also used the
same /home as before ...and kmail was doing the self same thing you describe,
here. After considerable mucking about I discovered that by deleting
~/.kde/share/config/kmailrc & allowing the new installation to created its
own, the prob disappeared. Of course, I had to recreate all my rules, but at
least I had a working Kmail. Turned out the newer version was gagging on the
old config.
Could it be that simple, or have you already attempted that??
