On a somewhat related note, I noticed this doesn't work on a persistent
Live CD isntallation.  I get a clean fstab file on every boot,
apparently this isn't stored on the USB stick. 

As a workaround I made a shortcut launcher that calls a script that
replaces the fstab file with one I keep in my home folder, then mount
all the drives.
