Powernowd & Centrino Core Duo

I'm having trouble installing powernowd 0.97. It installs fine, but
after a reboot, I'm getting sysfs errors. The files the readme.Debian
says it's looking for for cpuscaling under
/sys/devices/system/cpu/cpu0/cpufreq aren't there until I reinstall
0.96.

I'm a complete newb here, just want my second core to *not* be running
at full speed all the time.
