yes, it is safe to uninstall ubuntu-desktop, that is just a meta
package that pulls all the dependencies in upon install. 



but really, unless you are real low on hd space, no reason to uninstall
gnome. if kde gets screwed, at least you will be able to use gnome, if
you still have it, while you are trying to fix up your kde. :)
hypothetical situation of course, not like kde ever breaks or
anything... :rolleyes:
