The trash can

This is probably totally obvious but so far I haven't managed.

How does one make the trashcan appear as a desktop icon? I tried
dragging the thing on to the desktop which didn't work. I tried the
'create launcher' but no trashcan available. I searched the forums and
found a solution but it mentioned opening the 'configuration editor'
from a System Tools menu which I don't have. (Dapper)

The problem with the trashcan in the task bar is that it's too small, it
looks like an empty battery indicator (the new Dapper theme), when you
right click to empty it then you get loads of menu options with bright
icons next to them EXCEPT the obvious one of 'Empty trash'. (SO many
times I selected 'Remove from Panel' when I wanted to just empty it..
Because 'remove from panel' has an icon with it (the blue minus sign)
which kind of intuitively felt like it would get rid of the trashcan
items, but instead it of course gets rid of the trashcan itself.

I really think the trashcan needs simple layout-work. It should look
less like an empty battery, and it needs less options when
right-clicked, AND the most prominent options (icon and all) should be
just 'Open' and 'Empty Trash'. 'Nice to have' would be a button to
empty the trash once it's opened.

Cheers,
Chanchao
