Upgrade Question

Here's another: 2nd startup after upgrade, updates required, now restart, but...blank screen...fan at maximum...? I flip the switch, seems to work now.  Strange? (Toshiba R15-S829).

Hello,

I just upgraded to Dapper Drake and in Synaptic I now have a category of packages called "Installed (local or obsolete)."  What is up with those?  Have new packages replaced their functionality so that I can delete them without loss?
