Enterprise Volume Management fails

Ubuntu Users,

I'm using Dapper Drake, 6.04.

I have noticed recently that when I boot up, during the boot screen that 
has the brown Ubuntu logo at top and shows a series of modules being 
loaded, it says:
Starting Enterprise Volume Management System    [failed]

So far as I know, I have done nothing to configure any such volume 
management system.

What might be the problem?
