dapper and Xorg

Hello All,

I over the weekend upgraded Brezzy to Dapper and the stars were not aligned 
right in the sky. The X in drapper seems to be broken in my case.

I am almost sure that dpkg-reconfigure got the correct information about the 
chipset and the rest.
If I do sudo Xorg then I get a screen in black and white but no login screen 
for Kde or Gnome.

When I do startkde I get the error display not found and the KDE gives up.

When trying to start GDM it says that display is not set right.

What do I do?
