It depends. If you installed IceWM using apt or synaptic, it should have
made a file for you, and you can select it from "Sessions" in gdm (login
screen)

If you installed it some other way ( deprecated unless absolutely
necessary ;) ) , then you can create an icewm.desktop file in the

/usr/share/xsessions

directory. Use the existing gnome.desktop file as a template, and just
change the Exec line to point at icewm's start script, or your personal
startup script, for instance /home/you/.xsession or whatever. Of course,
you would also change the relevant naming etc
- it' s pretty easy to do, and there's no need to delete entries for other
languages or anything else in the file you use as a template.

Once you have that file in place as icewm.desktop in /usr/share/xsessions,
the session should show as an option in gdm sessions  just like gnome.
